Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Distinguished Guests,
Welcome to Houston and to the 102nd Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition as we Explore New Horizons with Innovative Solutions! It is both a privilege and a pleasure to welcome you to this landmark event, hosted in a city that has long stood at the forefront of energy innovation.
This year’s theme reflects both the challenges and opportunities facing our industry today. As the global energy landscape continues to evolve, so must we—embracing new technologies, advancing sustainable practices, and fostering collaboration across disciplines. ATCE remains a premier platform to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and inspire forward-thinking solutions that will shape the future of petroleum engineering.
ATCE has been an important part of my own professional journey, having attended my first ATCE in 1982 in New Orleans. Since then, I have witnessed remarkable advancements in technology and innovation, and ATCE continues to be the ideal forum for the exchange of ideas—face to face—while reconnecting with colleagues and building new relationships.
Over the coming days, you will experience a dynamic mix of technical sessions, keynote presentations, strategic panels, and special events. These sessions bring fresh perspectives and bold ideas, offering opportunities to engage with experts, challenge assumptions, and explore emerging trends redefining our industry. You will connect with peers from around the world, broaden your perspective, and consider your role in shaping what comes next.
You are part of a global community of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders. As you reconnect with old friends and build new connections, I encourage you to think about how the insights and relationships formed this week can extend beyond the conference—back to your teams, organizations, and communities. Let this be a catalyst for continued dialogue, collaboration, and progress for years to come.
SPE thrives because of the diversity of its members—diversity of thought, experience, and initiative. Here in Houston, let us embrace those differences, learn from one another, and together chart the course toward the next chapter of our industry.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our speakers, sponsors, and volunteers whose dedication has made this event possible. Most importantly, thank you for being here, for bringing your curiosity, and for stepping into new frontiers with us.
We wish you a productive, engaging, and inspiring conference experience.
Warm regards,

John A. Howard
