Jean-Baptiste Clavaud
JB Clavaud is the AI/Data lead for Chevron Upstream Subsurface Digital Platform, a role created in late 2025 to shape Chevron’s subsurface data governance and advance Chevron’s Subsurface AI ambitions.
Clavaud joined Chevron in 2005 as a research petrophysicist after four years with Schlumberger.
During his time at Chevron, Clavaud led the petrophysics R&D team; worked as a consultant in Upstream Capability Reservoir Management, contributing to the global opportunity catalog and technology piloting portfolio; managed the petrophysics unit; and later managed the Earth Science Strategic Research Unit.
He held multiple cross-functional assignments including Intellectual Property manager, co-leading Chevron’s subsurface digital transformation, and co-leading the creation of the Chevron-Microsoft-Schlumberger strategic partnership. From 2020 to 2023, Clavaud was a venture capitalist at Chevron Technology Ventures, leading investments and serving on startup boards. From 2023 to 2025, he held an HR role focused on career planning, job placements, and subsurface reorganization.
Clavaud holds multiple well-log interpretation patents and received best paper and distinguished lecturer honors from the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts. He holds a PhD in geophysics from the University of Paris
