John A. Howard is Co-Founder and President of Altus Well Experts and a board-certified petroleum engineer specializing in casing design, tubular stress analysis, and well integrity. Over the past four decades, he has worked with more than 80 operators worldwide on HPHT, subsea, geothermal, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) well design. He has contributed to the evolution of casing design methodologies for thermal, pressure, and lifecycle well integrity, helping extend conventional oil and gas design practices to emerging geothermal and CCUS applications. He has taught casing design and well integrity courses in more than 30 countries across six continents, sharing practical engineering knowledge with operators, service companies, and universities worldwide. He is an SPE Distinguished Lecturer, author of numerous technical papers on well integrity and casing design and is the Technical Program Chair for the 2026 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition.
