Matan Agam is part of OpenAI’s Special Situations team, where he helps build the company’s energy partnerships efforts with a focus on oil and gas. He brings more than 15 years of experience across the energy value chain, including upstream, midstream, downstream, energy services, retail, and technology.

Before joining OpenAI, Matan held corporate development and M&A roles across the sector, including nearly a decade at Shell, where his last role was leading Business Development and M&A for Shell Midstream US. He is passionate about the energy industry’s complexity, its role in global economic and social development, and the opportunity for AI to improve how critical energy systems are built, operated, and optimized.
