Professor and Director, Tertiary Oil Recovery Program at University of Kansas

Reza Barati is the Don W. Green Professor of chemical and petroleum engineering at the University of Kansas, where he directs the Tertiary Oil Recovery Program and undergraduate studies in petroleum engineering.

Barati has more than 20 years of experience across industry, academia, and consulting. His technical expertise includes enhanced oil recovery, unconventional reservoir engineering, hydraulic fracturing, reservoir characterization, carbon capture, utilization, and storage, and petroleum economics. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, holds multiple patents related to subsurface energy technologies, and has led numerous industry- and government-sponsored research programs focused on unconventional resource development.

His work connects laboratory research, field implementation, technology commercialization, and techno-economic evaluation, providing an integrated perspective on advancing shale EOR from concept to commercial deployment.

Barati holds a PhD and an MS in petroleum engineering from the University of Kansas and completed undergraduate studies in chemical engineering with a petroleum engineering minor at the University of Petroleum Technology.
