Rita Okoroafor
Esuru Rita Okoroafor is an Assistant Professor and Chevron Corporation Faculty Fellow in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University. Her research focuses on advancing sustainable subsurface energy systems, including geological hydrogen, geothermal energy, underground hydrogen storage, carbon storage, and the application of AI to subsurface engineering. Before joining academia, she spent 15 years with SLB (Schlumberger), where she held technical and leadership roles in reservoir engineering and integrated field development.
An SPE Distinguished Lecturer, Okoroafor is passionate about preparing the next generation of energy professionals through interdisciplinary education, hands-on research, and strong industry partnerships. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses that integrate traditional petroleum engineering with emerging energy technologies and mentors students to develop the technical, analytical, and leadership skills needed to address the evolving global energy landscape.
