A Compelling Opening General Session

"Enabling Solutions Inspired by People for the Future of Energy"

At last year’s ATCE, attendees kicked off their week with an inspiring discussion on the future of energy—driven by people, innovation, and purpose. Industry leaders explored how to meet rising energy demands while accelerating low-carbon technologies, rethinking business strategies, and optimizing today’s assets.

This powerful session set the tone for an impactful week of learning, networking, and collaboration.

President's Luncheon & SPE Leadership

At the President’s Luncheon and Annual Meeting of Members, outgoing SPE President Olivier Houzé delivered the “State of the Society” address, reflecting on a year of reflection and resolve. He emphasized SPE’s adaptation to change and its enhanced relevance going forward.

Houzé also announced the completion of the EnRG‑LLM project (in partnership with Aramco Americas and i2k Connect) which SPE will now license to industry partners.

The gavel was passed to incoming President Jennifer Miskimins, head of petroleum engineering at Colorado School of Mines. She expressed her vision: from ideas to action, with focus on upskilling, talent, and the next wave of energy discussions.

Technical Program Highlights

The technical program comprised over 300 papers across eight disciplines, covering cutting‑edge topics from drilling and completions to energy transition and digitalization.
Special talks included:

  • “The Geothermal Decade” keynote by Tim Latimer, co‑founder & CEO of Fervo Energy — spotlighting geothermal’s rising role in the energy mix.

  • A keynote by Chris Lemons, a veteran saturation diver who survived 30 minutes stranded at 295 ft underwater — underscoring human resilience, risk, and innovation.

In addition to keynotes, more than 15 strategic panels and special sessions provided attendees with insights into the latest innovations, best practices, and emerging trends in the energy industry. These sessions reinforced the importance of technical excellence, bold thinking, and collaboration in shaping the future of energy.

Innovation, Geothermal and Tomorrow’s Energy Landscape

Last year’s Startup Village brought together emerging energy startups to pitch their innovations to industry leaders and investors. Finalists competed in fast‑paced presentations and Q&A sessions, gaining mentorship, exposure, and recognition.

Winners included PrePad (Best in Show), Daphne Technology (Rising Star and People’s Choice), and Aqualung Carbon Capture (Rising Star), highlighting some of the most promising new technologies shaping the future of energy.

On the final day of ATCE, Project InnerSpace in partnership with SPE hosted its inaugural Geothermal Innovation Summit. A highlight was the closing fireside chat with energy trader John Arnold on markets, transformative ventures, and the future of geothermal energy.
